NEW HOPE

New Hope for Men with Recurrent Prostate Cancer. Urologic Consultants participating in study of effectiveness of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).
Posted in Endocrinology on 19.06.10 by Merlyn
HIFU is designed as a minimally invasive, outpatient prostate cancer treatment. Urologic Consultants of Southeastern Pennsylvania in collaboration with Drexel University College of Medicine are currently the only clinical investigative site in the state of Pennsylvania. The technology allows physicians to destroy cancerous tissue with extreme heat generated from focused ultrasound waves. The ultrasound energy is delivered in rapid-fire succession to targeted tissue throughout the gland. The tissue at each target is destroyed while surrounding tissue remains unharmed. It does not use radiation and is not a surgical procedure. (PRWeb Jun 19, 2010)
